Specialising in inclusive pedagogy and media production, I deliver industry-standard training in film, TV, and digital marketing, with a focus on decolonisation and accessible curriculum design. Experienced in teaching Adobe Creative Suite, professional grade filming equipment, and studio gallery workflows.
Below is a selection of modules I've taught.
At level 6 I ran the department's most popular optional module, in which students were invited to negotiate their own creative brief, which I would supervise and support.
Over the years I facilitated and oversaw the production of drama scripts, short films, feature length documentaries, comic books/graphic novels, game asset design, social media and marketing portfolios, foley projects and more.
I ran this module remote/hybrid with as much accessible support as possible, through flexible and regular meetings in person and via Teams.
A challenge of this module was helping students to meet their own goals and targets, and grow their professional communication as well as the skills they were learning for their project. Even so, I was able to keep high pass and attainment rates.
For this year-long studio and location module I co-taught students how to plan, record, and edit broadcast ready packages with interviews on location, and build them into an as-live broadcast in a fully equipped professional broadcast studio.
Using Sony & DJI cameras, Rode microphones and Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects.
I designed, coordinated and delivered practical skills teaching one of the largest cross programme modules in the school, spanning Film, TV Production, Digital Marketing, Broadcast Journalism, Sports Journalism and Media courses.
As module leader I facilitated the smooth delivery and assessment of a carousel of simultaneous rotating seminars and workshops, delivering a range of practical skills such as camera, lighting, audio, editing, storytelling, scriptwriting, pre production & basic graphics, collaboratively staffed by senior academics and technicians, this flexible year-long module was flexible each year to fit ever updating course requirements.
In class I taught weekly audio recording, video editing and graphics seminars and workshops using Adobe Creative Suite, and a selection of boom \& clip mics.
I also designed and implemented accessible assessments for cohorts of up to 90 students per year, as part of my commitment to accessible learning, attainment and student retention.
My first one-semester module in 2018, teaching audio production skills such as microphone recording, foley & sound design, scripting for radio and sound editing. Using a variety of professional grade equipment and adobe audition software. This was my first taste of module leadership and student feedback on the module was outstanding.
I worked collaboratively on yearly cross-programme integrated assessment in the TV studio, guiding the entire school of students to produce a 30 minute live-streamed studio broadcast with physical and digital set design, multiple presenters, live guests, pre-recorded packages, remote crews and interviews, and live bands.
In my most recent year on this module I managed the studio & gallery teams for two weeks, and brought the live broadcast in on time to the millisecond.
During this module for level 3 students I gave media production and film seminars as well as video, audio and editing workshops to students across a variety of foundation courses. A focus for these sessions was engagement and participation, helping students get a taste of the subject area and creating a welcoming environment where they could explore equipment and topics the Higher Education way.
Throughout my time at LTU I made an effort to co-create projects across departments, run open day taster sessions, visit schools and colleges whenever possible to encourage future applications, and invest time and resource into widening participation initiatives that supported the most marginalised groups at the University and in our wider community.
I also took the initiative to design and deliver accessible teaching and learning workshops and materials to staff, during which I worked with the disability support office to design accessibility positive changes to the curriculum and marking grids used across the school, including accessible filmmaking.
